As the situation in Iraq spirals further & further out of control, I wanted to share this cartoon with you that I did back in August of ‘03. (Fortunately, my Dubya has improved immensely since then; unfortunately, he’s been in office long enough for that to happen).

Apparently, I wasn’t the only person who felt this way. In fact, US intelligence agencies warned Bush & Co. that post invasion Iraq might not be as rosy as they were leading everyone to believe. Here are a few prophetic warnings from the report:
• Establishing “an Iraqi democracy would be a long, difficult and probably turbulent process, with potential for backsliding into Iraq’s tradition of authoritarianism.”
• Unless the occupying forces prevented it, “score settling would occur throughout Iraq between those associated with Saddam’s regime and those who have suffered most under it.”
• Among the majority Shiite population, which Saddam had kept out of power, a political form of Islam could take root, “particularly if economic recovery were slow and foreign troops remained in the country for a long period.”
• Iran would probably try to shape the post-Hussein Iraq, in a bid to position itself as a regional power.
• Al Qaeda would probably take advantage of the war to increase its terrorist activities, and the lines between it and other terrorist groups “could become blurred.”
Oddly, it didn’t mention anything about rose petals…

According to this post on the Blogs4Brownback site it would seem that Sam Brownback (the Senator from Kansas & GOP presidential candidate) believes that the sun revolves around the earth! I’m sure the ludicrous Geocentric views espoused in the piece (Heliocentrism encourages anti-Americanism?! WTF?!) reflect only the author’s misguided, blind adherence to the bible, not Mr. Brownback’s, right? But who knows, in the last GOP debate, when the candidates were asked about the “theory” of evolution (and the fact that evolution is still up for debate in this country speaks volumes about just how backasswards Americans can be) nearly half indicated that they didn’t believe in it (& one of ‘em was Senator Brownback).
So, here’s a cartoon I did two years ago as part of a full week of cartoons dedicated to “Intelligent Design” which now seems even more appropriate:

Last night I was watching the news and they reported on a recent study that claims that between 100,000 to 300,000 barrels of oil go missing from Iraq every day. At the end of the story, they mentioned that ironically, Iraqis must now import oil to make up for shortcomings due to the war. Here’s a cartoon I did on the very same subject nearly four years ago…

This one was inspired by the latest batch of tornadoes which flattened much of the Mid-West.

When I heard the Queen was coming over to the states, I just knew something like this was going to happen… I mean, Jesus H. Christ, just when you think the guy can’t be any more of a clueless ass. I think the look on her face says it all.

*Cough* So yeah, I thought I might start myself a blog, like all the cool kids are doing these days. If you don’t know me (and you probably don’t) my name is Kelly Ferguson & I draw a one panel cartoon entitled basketcase. I’m starting this separate site to post all of my political/editorial comics, so that they don’t offend or scare off readers of my regular cartoon strip.
I’ll try to have a new cartoon posted each week, but at this point, I can’t make any promises. If the blog’s title doesn’t already give you a pretty good idea of what you’re in store for, I’m going to post some of my earlier work below.
